So Friday is here once again.
No school runs.
No work apart from Sunday morning.
Time to have family time. Well it is in the Hill house!
I’m writing this listening to Hamilton, in particular the song Satisfied. It’s the eleventh song from Act 1 of the musical (#wikipedia). Did you know that Lin-Manuel Miranda was inspired by an actual letter written by Angelica Schuyler to Alexander Hamilton? This musical has to be on the must see list if you’ve not already seen it. I'm not going to say much more about it as I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Check out this weeks podcast where me and Antony talk more about Musicals! Our Podcast is called ‘Catalyst Happy Hour(ish)’ available on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Google Podcast and Soundcloud.
SATISFIED - adjective - Contented, Pleased, Happy or Proud
What satisfies you? Makes you Happy or Proud?
For me it’s completing a project or task. To see an end result gives me so much satisfaction. Recently it was my home. In January 2019 we inherited the house we live in now. This was the first house renovation I have ever done and looking at the house we thought it would be an easy job. Well it wasn’t! The ceilings had asbestos in them, the electrics were dangerous and needed replacing, central heating needed to be fitted. The whole house needed decorating and the list went on!
I sat down at my computer and started designing a new home for my family. We took down walls, fitted a RSJ, took down all the ceilings and had them replaced, had new electrics fitted due to the fact most rooms only had 1 plug in them.
This project took just under 6 months to complete and literally blood (I fell down the stairs), sweat and tears went in to making this a home. I now sit down in my front room or office and just look around and I am so proud and satisfied. I could not have done it without my families help.
I’m also satisfied with my life! I have lived a very bumpy life and I know most of you know my story so I won’t bore you with it again. If you haven’t just talk to me and I will fill you in.
I have my faith, a relationship with Jesus. I have a loving wife and family. I have a job I love. I have friends I would not give up for anything.
I am truly satisfied. I mean I could always do with a few more pounds in the bank but money never buys anyone happiness.
Bob Marley said “Open your eyes, look within. Are you satisfied with the life you’re living?” If the answer is NO, then it's time to reassess and make the changes so that you can be satisfied.
Rosalynn Carter once said ‘You must accept that you might fail; then, if you do your best and still don’t win, at least you can be satisfied that you’ve tried. If you don’t accept failure as a possibility, you don’t set high goals, you don’t branch out, you don’t try - you don’t take the risk.’
I took a risk when I started the renovation of my home, I failed at so many things. But I tried. I set high goals. I knew I could not do everything but I wanted to try. I wanted to push myself to my absolute limit. And I am so glad I did, because what I did do, was put my all into this home and I am so proud of what I did.
Again I took a risk in giving my life to Jesus and look where its got me! I have lost friends along the way, my family has changed around me. But I would not change anything. I was the one who woke up one morning and wanted to go to church. Sarah had no interest in this but, since I attend she thought she should as well and its also changed her life. She has become a valued member of the church and has always stood behind me in all that I do.
Take that risk
Set high goals
AND TRY! You never know, you may just become satisfied!
